Protection is Their Right

“Protection is Their Right” is an initiative launched by “Alashanek Ya Balady” Association for Sustainable Development (AYB), in cooperation with the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Students' Federation (EPSF) and under the auspices of the Egyptian Pediatrics Association (EPA).

Together we can stop the clock on pneumonia and save thousands of children’s lives in the coming years!

Why Pneumonia, Why now?

  • In 2006 the UNICEF/WHO report “Pneumonia, the Forgotten Killer of Children” disclosed that pneumonia kills 2 million children every year - more than AIDS, malaria and measles combined.

PNEUMONIA IS A LEADING KILLER OF CHILDREN.

  • Every 20 seconds, pneumonia kills another child. That’s 5,500 child deaths every day, and a staggering 2 million child deaths every year from a preventable, treatable disease.
  • Fighting pneumonia is a critical strategy for countries working to reach the Millennium Development Goals by 2015, which include a goal to reduce under- 5 child deaths by two-thirds from the 1990 level.
  • Most people are unaware of pneumonia’s overwhelming death toll. For this reason, pneumonia has been overshadowed as a priority on the global health agenda, and rarely receives coverage in the news media.
  • According to WHO statistics, Egypt is one of the top 15 countries accounting for three quarters of childhood pneumonia cases worldwide.

Mission:

Increasing health awareness in the Egyptian society and participating effectively in the reduction of childhood’s mortality in Egypt through vaccination.

Objectives:

1- To disseminate awareness throughout the Egyptian society about Pneumonia, the leading killer of children below the age of five.

2- Celebrating the third World Pneumonia Day, November 2011.

3- Vaccinating 10,000 high risk children in 10 governmental hospitals with the PCV7 vaccine to protect them against Pneumococcal Diseases & Pneumonia.

4- Establishing a vaccination clinic at the Egyptian Pediatrics Association (EPA)’s premises to vaccinate underprivileged children on a free basis.
