Cairo, Egypt, February 5, 2012: In line with Alashanek Ya Balady Association for Sustainable Development (AYB-SD)’s “Foq El Khat” campaign (Arabic for “Above the Line”) to empower 10,000,000 Egyptians to rise above the poverty line by the year 2020, AYB-SD took part in the “Shaghalni Shokran” (Arabic for “Employ me, thank you”) employment fair, where its training, career guidance and employment services were offered to those seeking employment. The employment fair was held on February 2-3, 2012, at the Cairo International Conference Center in Nasr City.
At AYB-SD’s booth, nearly 5000 job seekers filled out applications throughout the duration of the fair. Next, all applicants will be contacted for interviews to better understand their needs and career preferences, and to be able to undergo the proper training and be placed accordingly. AYB-SD will then match their qualifications with available vacancies communicated to AYB-SD by partner companies and factories. The AYB-SD team will continue to follow up with the employed applicants in order to ensure that they are stable in their place of employment.
AYB aims to create an economically independent society and encourage youth participation in sustainable community development though innovating creative development models that are applicable on a regional level. AYB offers numerous programs in various fields such as vocational training, career guidance creating employment opportunities, as well as small and micro loans, in addition to promoting and emphasizing on the concept of volunteering in community development and fostering public and private partnerships.
Nearly 60 young men and women are employed in AYB-SD, working in all five branches of the NGO; Maadi Headquarters and Training and Employment center, Loans Office in Ain El Seera, Vocational Center in Ain El Seera, Vocational Training Center in Omraneya, and Loans and Employment Office in Dar El Salam. AYB-SD’s range of activities covers 10 governorates in Egypt (Greater Cairo, El Monoufeya, El Daqahleya, El Sharqeya, El Gharbeya, El Fayoum, El Menya, Beni Sweif, Qena, El Beheira), with the assistance of partner NGOs in each area.
