Cairo, Egypt, August 10, 2011: Yesterday at noon, “Alashanek Ya Balady” Association for Sustainable Development (AYB-SD) launched its national campaign “Foq El Khat” (Arabic for above the line), aiming to graduate 10 million Egyptians above the poverty line by the year 2020. The conference was held at AYB-SD’s Maadi headquarters.
The objective of the press conference was to introduce the campaign and shed light on its importance, objectives, phases and how the various sectors of the community can help get the message across. The conference entailed a detailed presentation by Dr. Raghda El Ebrashi, AYB Chairperson and Founder, and Mohamed El Kamel, AYB’s Programs Director and Strategist, about AYB and its development model, which integrates loans, employment and training, as well as education and awareness, with the aim to enable underprivileged Egyptians to rise above the poverty line.
The presentation also included a detailed description of the campaign and how it will be implemented. AYB’s strategy through “Foq El Khat” is providing loans for establishing individual, group and medium sized enterprises in various fields such as manufacturing and agriculture, and providing educational and agricultural individual funds for employment to equip individuals with the necessary skills to either work in the private sector or starts their own business. This model is set to sustain a dignified life for those who live under the poverty line, by securing a sustainable income for their families and thus enabling them to graduate from the circle of poverty. A documentary about AYB’s activities followed the presentation, highlighting the various programs and displaying field coverage.
“In AYB-SD, we believe in the power of the civic sector to create innovative opportunities for the underprivileged to sustain their lives, and activate the effective engagement of youth in solving society’s problems. The dream of changing a countries’ entire corrupt regime which lasted over 30 years by Egyptian youth in only 18 days has been realized by the same youth who now dream to empower their underprivileged compatriots to rise above the poverty line,” remarked Dr. Raghda El Ebrashi.
A number of journalists, reporters and representatives from corporations and non-governmental organizations attended the conference, and engaged in enthusiastic discussions about the campaign.
