When we hear the word “NGO”, we always think of helping people, doing good, providing support, and more.
Some people take NGOs as charitable organizations that provide direct services for instant relief. Some other people think of NGOs as development organizations that work on empowering communities and decrease their dependability on others. In Alashanek ya Balady, we believe in something more; which is creating sustainable solutions for social change in Egypt and the world!
We believe in the power of the civic sector in creating innovative opportunities for the poor to sustain their lives, for the active engagement of youth in solving society’s problems, and for involving the private and the public sector in the course of social change.
Social change needs multi-partnerships among the civic, private, and public sectors, where those partners are the ones who collectively work on transforming the inefficient social structures in the society. Social change is about working on the roots of the problems; ranging from changing stereotypes to fostering community participation and the creation of a sense of responsibility on the national and international level.
Systemized volunteerism, franchising, participation, empowerment, partnerships, and social innovation are the main key words we have in Alashanek ya Balady! Our organization is a ‘people organization’, where everyone has the space to contribute and innovate for social change. We always say that being in or with Alashanek ya Balady is an experience in itself, because we believe that people working on social change also benefit on the personal and professional level.
