word from chairperson

On behalf of all Alashanek ya Balady family, I would like to thank you for visiting our website and I hope you'd enjoy learning about our NGO and interact with us!

1_-_raghda-ebrashi

When we hear the word “NGO”, we always think of helping people, doing good, providing support, and more.

Some people take NGOs as charitable organizations that provide direct services for instant relief. Some other people think of NGOs as development organizations that work on empowering communities and decrease their dependability on others. In Alashanek ya Balady, we believe in something more; which is creating sustainable solutions for social change in Egypt and the world!

development model

AYB-SD promotes learning among poor teens, youth, and women, through continuous trainings that focus on life skills and personal coaching. Unprivileged communities receive specialized and vocational trainings, which provide the needed job skills and knowledge for them to be employed in the private sector. In addition, coaching is an always an integral part of learning, which provides the right orientation for unprivileged communities about the job market, and to better discover themselves. Learning is also integrated into AYB-SD’s programs given to teens, which provides them with the vision for their future, and to make them ready for the job market after the next five years of their lives.

story

Behind every great success story there is an inspirational turning point. AYB, a dream and a vision of a better reality for this country, is no exception.

It all began with Raghda El Ebrashi, a 12 year old child, encountering a moment of enlightenment that would change her perception of the world forever.

On her first school trip outside Cairo, Raghda went to Bel-bayes, Sharkeya, to visit a home for the elderly. There she found Om Fathy, an old and seemingly very poor woman who was occupied with cleaning the place. Raghda, who was yet inexperienced, involved in her luxurious “Cairo” life and pretty much unaware of the real face of poverty, stood and wondered about this woman and the reasons why someone would be working with such worn out clothes on.
