AYB-SD’s involvement with Dahab Island began with the initiative, in collaboration with German University in Cairo (GUC) Faculty of Engineering students, to construct a youth sports facility in an unutilized area on the island (right below the Moneib section of the ring road) as a part of their graduation project. AYB-SD will support this initiative through managing the youth sports facility after the students finish the construction phase and enhance the capacity of the structure to host developmental activities to serve the Island. AYB-SD’s main goal is to form community development committee to be formed of volunteer community members. The committee will assess the needs of Dahab Island and decide upon the required development activities accordingly, as part of the participatory approach AYB-SD is adopting. Moreover, the committee will be the channel between AYB-SD’s team and the Island’s community, through which AYB-SD can propose developmental solutions and define the activities that would be implemented by volunteers from the island. Furthermore, AYB-SD will take the responsibility of communicating with the legal entities to implement the projects the committee agreed upon. At this stage, AYB’s team is developing survey to be distributed on the Island to determine the main needs. Afterwards, the results will be analyzed to identify the major needs of the Island and select the community development committee members to start working right away.
