Every 20 seconds, one child’s soul is lost to Pneumonia. This amounts to 5,500 child deaths every day, and a staggering 2 million child deaths every year from a preventable and treatable disease. This figure succeeds AIDS, Malaria and Measles combined, according to the UNICEF and World Health Organization (WHO) report “Pneumonia, the Forgotten Killer of Children”, issued in 2006. Most people are unaware of Pneumonia’s overwhelming death toll, for this reason, Pneumonia has been overshadowed as a priority on the global health agenda.

Ever since its establishment in 2005, Alashanek Ya Balady for Sustainable Development has strived and grown to become one of the most successful and innovative youth NGOs in Egypt working on developing poor neighborhoods while utilizing an unconventional approach which includes every member of the society in the development process.
In AYB-SD, we believe in the power of the civic sector to create innovative opportunities for the poor that sustain their lives, and activate the effective engagement of youth in solving society’s problems. We believe in the necessity of involving the private and public sector in the course of social change. We are not trying to enforce temporary solutions. We are rather empowering to reform and to change the perception, mentality and approach, and therefore create a new outline for a better reality for our country; Egypt, and for the world.

To create an economically independent society and promote youth engagement in sustainable development through innovative regional models
